Helping a grocery startup scale from zero to 5,000+ orders
Project Overview
Client: UrbanCart, a fast‑growing online grocery startup aiming to disrupt local delivery.
Challenge: They needed a platform that could handle real‑time inventory, secure payments, and a smooth user experience across devices—all while scaling rapidly.
Solution: We built a headless e‑commerce solution with a Django backend (REST API) and a Vue.js frontend. The system integrates with Stripe for payments, and inventory syncs automatically with their warehouse database. The result: a fast, reliable shopping experience.
Real‑time Inventory Management
We implemented WebSocket connections and database triggers to update stock levels instantly as orders are placed. Customers see live availability, and out‑of‑stock items are automatically hidden.
Secure Payment Gateway
Stripe integration with support for credit cards, UPI, and digital wallets. Webhooks ensure order confirmation even if the user closes the browser. PCI‑DSS compliant.
Optimized Performance
We used Redis caching, database indexing, and a CDN for images. The site loads in under 1.2 seconds on average, even during peak traffic.
How We Built It
MVP Planning
We identified core features: product catalog, cart, checkout, user accounts, and admin panel. Defined user stories and created a sprint plan.
UI/UX Design
Clean, intuitive design with high‑contrast buttons, easy navigation, and mobile‑first approach. We created interactive prototypes in Figma.
Agile Development
We built the Django REST API first, then developed Vue.js components. Integrated Stripe and set up WebSocket for live inventory.
Load Testing & QA
Simulated 200 concurrent users, tested payment flows, and fixed edge cases. Ensured mobile responsiveness across devices.
Deployment & Monitoring
Deployed on AWS with auto‑scaling. Set up error tracking (Sentry) and performance monitoring (New Relic).
